Hello Mountain Vista Families,

Welcome to the home of the Mammoths! My name is Megan Carkhuff, and I am honored to serve as the Principal of Mountain Vista Elementary.

At Mountain Vista, we believe every child can learn, grow, and achieve at high levels when they are known, supported, and challenged. Our work is grounded in three core values: relationships, collaboration, and growth. Strong relationships create a foundation where students feel safe, connected, valued, and ready to learn. Collaboration between school and home helps us meet the needs of every learner and strengthens outcomes for children. We are committed to ensuring every student grows academically, socially, and emotionally each year they are with us.

Before moving into school leadership, I taught elementary students for nine years and loved every minute of being in the classroom. That experience continues to shape how I lead today. I know the importance of excellent instruction, caring educators, and a school community that works together to meet the needs of all learners.

Mountain Vista is a special place because of the people who make it great. Our dedicated staff cares deeply about children and works tirelessly to ensure each student receives the support, challenge, and opportunities they need to thrive. We believe in doing what is best for every student, every day, and we are committed to helping every Mammoth learn, belong, and succeed.

Partnership with families is essential to our success. We value open communication, shared problem solving, and celebrating progress together. When schools and families work as a team, amazing things happen for kids.

On a personal note, I live in Aurora with my husband, Sam, and our two sons, Lyle and Boyce. I am originally from Michigan (Go Green!). As a family, we enjoy camping in the mountains, exploring local parks, and spending time outdoors. You just might catch us climbing, sliding, or playing on the Mountain Vista playground after hours.

Thank you for being part of the Mountain Vista community. It is a privilege to serve your family and lead this incredible school. Together, we will continue building a place where students dream, believe, and achieve.

With appreciation,

Megan Carkhuff
