katy rowlandMy name is Katy Rowland, and I've been happily married to my husband Danny for 8 years, and we have two beautiful girls named Scarlett and Sophia.  I'm a mountain girl, growing up in the small town of Glenwood Springs.  I moved to Denver in 1995 to attend Metropolitan State College of Denver to become an art teacher.  I received my Bachelor's in Fine Arts with my K-12 art license.  In 2006 I graduated with my Master's in Education - Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in Integrated Teaching Through the Arts (K-12).

I have been lucky to call Rolling Hills Elementary my home for the last 13 years.  Teaching K-5 is such a joy for me,  it truly is the best "job" in the world.  My focus is on having all my students feel empowered by their own imagination and providing opportunities for kids to make connections with the visual arts and other curriculum.  I will provide them with the tools and techniques to be successful and have all students trust that they are artists.  I want the art room to be a safe and fun place for exploration and creativity.

On my down time I enjoy spending time with my family, camping, gardening, and going to the movies.  I am THRILLED to be starting at Mountain Vista and to begin this journey together.  I know it is going to be a very special place.

I graduated with a Bachelor's in Music Education with a guitar emphasis from Metropolitan State University of Denver.  My wife, Jenny and I have two sons, Micah and Hudson.  I love the outdoors, reading, sports and being with my family.

I have been a part of Mountain Vista Elementary since its opening year and I am excited to be a member of this team and community. The music program at Mountain Vista is based on the Orff Schulwerk approach.  I believe every student is innately musical, and the music program promotes meaningful musical experiences by combining elements of improvisation, movement, composition, literature, and instrumental studies.

It is with great honor and gratitude to be hired on as the physical education teacher at Mountain Vista.  I am coming over from Polton Elementary school in the Cherry Creek District where I spent over 15 amazing years fulfilling a dream job.  I am inspired to begin a new chapter in my career and look forward to being a part of the Mountain Vista community for many years to come.

I was born in New York and spent most of my early childhood here in Colorado.  After moving around some in my teen years and graduating high school in New York, I came back to Colorado where I have proudly called home since 1991.  I received my bachelor's degree from Metropolitan State College of Denver and my master's degree from the University of Phoenix.

This past April my incredible wife Michelle and I celebrated our 10th anniversary together.  We have a son, Zakai that will be in the 3rd grade at Mountain Vista this coming up school year.

On my down time I love to spend time with my family and friends, play golf, and follow the local sports teams religiously.

It is my objective to provide a healthy, fun and safe environment for your children to thrive in.  It is a place I hope your children will enjoy and be inspired to make healthy choices throughout their life time.  I will encourage your children to be proud of their accomplishments and be determined through their challenges.  I will provide an atmosphere of positive sportsmanship in the classroom and throughout the day to day activities.

I look forward to meeting you in the near future!
