First Grade

brianne lunaIt is an honor to be a part of Mountain Vista, and I am so excited to be on the first grade team!  I am a Colorado native and attended Cherry Creek School District schools kindergarten through twelfth grade.  I continued my education at Colorado State University where I received my Human Development degree with an Early Childhood Education teaching license.  In February 2010, I completed my Master's in Curriculum and Instruction.  I bring eight years of first grade experience, all of which have been in the Cherry Creek School District. Most recently, I helped to open and teach at Pine Ridge Elementary School.  I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help Mountain Vista get started as the best school it can be!

Because I believe students learn best in positive, structured environments, I work hard to create a classroom community that nurtures young learners and excites all children to do their best.  Developing 21st century learners is a priority in my classroom and therefore technology is incorporated as much as possible.  Teaching reading is my passion, and I hope to develop a love for reading in all of my students.

In July 2010, I happily married my high school sweetheart, Scott Luna.  We love spending time outdoors, cooking, traveling, watching movies and cheering for the Denver Broncos!  I cannot wait to get to know you and your family better and am looking forward to developing these relationships.

Welcome to Mountain Vista Elementary! My name is Erin Graff. I was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona. I attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Master's degree in Language, Reading, and Culture. This is also where I received my Reading Specialist endorsement. I have been teaching since 2010 and I have had experience teaching both 1st and 2nd grade. I moved to the beautiful state of Colorado in 2014 with my fiancé Bobby. We enjoy spending our weekends exploring Colorado, skiing, and camping with our friends and two dogs.

I was given the amazing opportunity to help open Mountain Vista and I couldn't be happier about teaching 1st grade! I truly believe that every child's education is a partnership between the home, school, and community. I am committed to creating a well-managed nurturing classroom where students feel valued and successful all while making learning fun!

abbey ligonWelcome to first grade at Mountain Vista! I went to Cherry Creek Schools from Kindergarten through high school. I graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder, with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and a teacher's license in Elementary Education.  I also have a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I have been teaching first grade for 11 years. My husband Alex and I have two daughters, Alivia (6 years old), and Adrienne (4 years old). As a family, we love visiting my parents in the mountains to go hiking, biking, and enjoy family dinners. We are big football fans and love cheering on the Broncos and go to all the CU football home games, go BUFFS!!

Teaching literacy is my passion, and watching children learn to read truly brightens my day! In my classroom I create a peaceful and productive community of learners who are not afraid to take academic risks.   I love being a member of the Mountain Vista community and look forward to establishing positive relationships and partnerships with the community!

chris palumbo with family

Hello!  My name is Chris Palumbo, and I am very excited to be a part of this community called Mountain Vista Elementary!  I am originally from Upstate New York and moved to Arizona when I was eleven years old.  I went to Northern Arizona University and received a Bachelor's in History and Political Science.  I returned to New York and attended SUNY New Paltz to attain a Master's in Elementary Education.  I then moved back to Arizona to begin my teaching career.  I have taught Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades.  I also returned to Northern Arizona University to attain another Master's in Educational Leadership.  After completing that program, I became an Instructional Coach and worked with teachers K-8.  Most recently, after moving to beautiful Colorado, I switched from and Instructional Coach to English Language Acquisition Specialist within the District.  My educational philosophy is that all children learn, and learn in different ways and at different rates.  Do whatever it takes to make connections with kids and help them achieve.   I am extremely excited about helping teachers differentiate in their classroom instruction to meet the needs of all students at Mountain Vista Elementary School.

On a personal note, I have an amazing family.  I love spending time with my wife, Heather, and my two boys, Christian and Hudson.  I enjoy all sports, both watching and playing.  Golf is a great part of my life, as well as, baseball.  Christian will be attending Mountain Vista with me, and we are both very excited about it!  Hudson has a few years to go but hopefully will be a member of the Mountain Vista family as well.

I look forward to beginning this journey together with staff, parents, and community to help make this educational experience for our children the best it can be.
