Hello MVE Community! My name is Tara Christian, and I cannot wait to start school in the fall here at Mountain Vista! I am originally from a small town in Ohio, but moved here almost nine years ago after graduating from Bowling Green State University. Since moving here I have taught kindergarten, second grade, and fourth grade in Aurora.
My husband and I love to be up in the mountains, skiing, hiking, or just taking in the beauty. I'm also an avid volleyball and tennis player as well as a runner, trying to get in as many 5k and 10k races as possible (no half or full marathons for this runner...I like running, but not that much!).
I believe in seeing the whole child, not just the academic side and encouraging students to be the best person, student, and friend they can be because all students can contribute and succeed. I'm very excited to learn more about each of you and look forward to seeing our school progress and grow through the coming years. See you in the fall!
Hi! My name is Mary-Margaret, and I love teaching fifth grade at Mountain Vista! I moved to Colorado seventeen years ago from North Carolina where I grew up in Tarboro (a small town on the way to the beach) and went to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. GO HEELS!
I have been teaching for a little more than a quarter of a century now! I've taught 3rd-12th grades, but love 5th grade the most!
My husband and I have two teenage boys and are spending a lot of our time watching them play sports and sing. When our family has free time we enjoy mountain biking, hiking, and traveling to see our families at the beach!
My favorite part of teaching is learning. I love to listen to students' thinking, read books, take classes, and try new strategies in our classroom. I believe that kids learn best when they feel safe and confident and make it my mission to ensure that every day!
Hey! My name is Tyler Milakis, and I am very excited for another great year at MVE! I was born and raised in Indianapolis, IN, lived in Chicago, and moved to Colorado back in 2012. I graduated with my Bachelors of Fine Arts and Spanish Literature from Purdue University, and recently graduated with my Masters of Elementary Education from MSU Denver. This is my second year teaching, but I have had experience working with children for the past 20 years. I've had experience in Kindergarten, 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade. I've been very lucky to have a broad experience through my teaching journey, and definitely am ready to impact my students' lives.
I love the outdoors, and when I'm not teaching, I usually am hiking, skiing, camping, or finding new adventures around Colorado. I love to work out, catch up with friends, go to concerts and baseball games, and am a Chicago sports fanatic. Go Cubs! I am obsessed with traveling, and have visited Costa Rica, Mexico, Honduras, Germany, and India. Also, I have a new dachshund puppy named Wrigley, who frequents the occasional adventure with me.
My favorite part about teaching is seeing them grow as learners and as people. It's amazing to see their thinking flourish and their creativity come out to problem solve. I make it a point to really get to know my students as both people and as learners, so I can find the best way to help them succeed, in the classroom and beyond!
