English Language Acquisition/Gifted & Talented

familypic2017.jpgMy name is Shannon Randels. I was born and raised here in Colorado and attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins where I studied Human Development and Family Studies. I continued my education at the University of Colorado in Denver and earned my Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction in 2005, and later got my endorsement in Gifted Education. This is my sixteenth year of teaching. Prior to becoming the gifted learning specialist at Mountain Vista, I was a classroom teacher for many years. I've taught kindergarten, first, second and third grade, with many of those years being a gifted cluster teacher.

My husband Jason and I are the proud parents of two boys; little Owen is a proud and eager first grader here at Mountain Vista and our older son Jack is headed to middle school this year. As you know, parenthood is a precious gift and it is a dream realized for me. Aside from being a mom, I enjoy camping, going to concerts, compulsively reading good books, taking pictures, baking, running, and having family dance parties in the kitchen.

I am so looking forward to getting to know you and your kiddos this year! It is an honor to share this chapter in your child's educational journey.

crawford.jpgBonjour! Hola! Nǐ hǎo! Shalo! Sabaidee! Selam! Hello! I am excited that another school year is off and rolling!  I wanted to take the time to introduce myself.  My name is Erin Crawford, and I am the English Language Specialist here at Mountain Vista.  This year marks my 13th year of teaching.  I taught an English language development Kindergarten class in Arizona for four years, ELA in Cherry Creek for five years, third grade for three years and now am back again working as an English Language Support Specialist.  I truly enjoy working with diverse families and learning and growing from them.  I am eager to work with the wonderful students and families here at Mountain Vista Elementary.  I have 2 children, Quinn 4, and Henry who is 2. My husband and I moved to Colorado 8 years ago and are truly at home; we love it!  We enjoy spending time outside together hiking, biking, and camping.

I am here to support your student in their development of the English language.  Through our program model of co-teaching, classroom teachers and myself plan effective lessons to help foster listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills.  I am looking forward to sharing in your child's learning this year!
